Effectiveness of Integrative Imagery- and Trance-Based Psychodynamic Therapies: Guided Imagery Psychotherapy and Hypnopsychotherapy

The article evaluates the efficacy of two psychodynamic therapies, Guided Imagery Psychotherapy (GIP) and Hypnopsychotherapy (HY), in an outpatient setting. The study involved 300 patients at the start, with 97 completing the 30-month follow-up. Various psychological and health economic measures were used to assess outcomes. Results showed significant improvements in most measures for both therapies, with effect sizes ranging from small to large. Improvements were noted especially in the first 6 months, continuing over the longer treatment period. The therapies demonstrated effectiveness in alleviating symptom distress and enhancing overall mental health under naturalistic conditions.
